What is Endodontics?Another term for root canal therapy.
Deep cavities, trauma, or simply just the aging process can cause the nerves inside teeth to become inflamed and necrotic, giving rise to severe dental pain and possibly abscess. By cleaning out the root canals of all debris and sealing the access we are able to eliminate the pain and preserve the tooth.
Why have specialist Endodontics? Many teeth have roots, which are hidden or very difficult to treat. Often it is only with specialised equipment, microscopes and experience is it possible to successfully treat these teeth.
No, you can contact the Centre direct however, if it were possible to obtain a referral from your own dentist then just ask for one.
Why haven’t I been referred before for root canal treatment? Many practitioners carry out root canal treatment but have reduced success rates compared to specialists. Unfortunately there are under 200 specialist registered Endodontics in the country and most are in private practice.
We have two practitioners who carry out root canal work for referred patients and for your guidance please find a list of our specialist fees.
The aspect of dentistry, which covers gum disease.
If your gums bleed
If your teeth are loosening
If you are becoming ‘long in the tooth’
Yes, if proper oral hygiene is undertaken at a young age or instigated before too much progress of gum disease has taken place.
In most people the disease can be arrested and to some extent reversed.
Should I see a gum specialist? If you feel that your dentist is not providing the treatment required you are welcome to ask for a referral or alternatively seek a periodontist.
Our referral practice has a specialist periodontist on site who can undertake your treatment directly or through a referral from your own dentist.
Why would I need to see an oral surgeon?
Everything from impacted wisdom teeth and difficult extractions to oral diseases can be assessed and treated by our consultant oral surgeon.
Consultant oral surgeon Dr Anthony Giles will be a familiar name to many local practitioners as until recently he was the consultant in oral surgery and oral medicine at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. He will be available to carry out mostly surgical procedures in our surgical theatres and consultations in regard to oral medicine if requested.
